Proposed Enhancements to Curriculum Development Process at TEVETA Approved in Principle

Members of the Curriculum Development Coordinating Committee (CDCC) approved in principle a number of enhancements to the Curriculum Development (CD) process at TEVETA including adjusted curriculum documents for the five construction trades.

The CDCC meeting was called to review not only the enhanced CD process but also the refined occupational analyses, curricula, and curricula maps for the five harmonized curricula in construction. At the same meeting, the CDCC members also approved in principle the format of the facilitator and learner guides. The committee members appreciated the use of many photographs, step by step procedures, and practical exercises in the guides.

Formal review of the content in the five sets of Level 1 teaching, learning and assessment materials (brick-laying, plumbing, electrical installation, carpentry and painting) has been referred to the respective Technical Advisory Committees established earlier under TEVETA. Once this approval is received and any adjustments made, the pilot materials will be printed for distribution for use by instructors and trainees.

The CDCC was set up under Component 2 of the EU funded Skills and Technical Education Programme (STEP) and is comprised of persons from the construction industry, TEVETA, and Department of Technical and Vocational Training. The committee is one of the ways STEP endeavours to strengthen the link between employers and training providers.
