STEP Ambassador is this Year’s Best Female Music Artist

STEP is pleased to announce that Sangie has been awarded this year’s Best Female Music Artist in the recent Urban Music People (UMP) Awards 2017.

The Reggae/Dance-Hall artist was awarded at a sixth edition ceremony that took place on 18th November, 2017 at BICC in Lilongwe. The UMP awards take place annually with an aim to celebrate achievements in music and promote urban music artists in Malawi.

As an ambassador for STEP, she has also released theme songs such as Ngwazi Zachikazi featuring Robert Chiwamba a poet who is also a STEP ambassador and centers around ending gender stereotyping and promoting women to go into careers of their choice. Sangie is also working on another song calling on people to take action and end gender based violence soon to be released as 16 days of activism against gender based violence approaches.  Stay tuned here to see the release of this new song.

Sangie is an advocate for positive change in Malawi and promotes a new vision for women and men through her songs.  STEP is pleased to partner with Sangie to reach out to youth and empower them to break negative gender roles and reach their full potential.
