Building on the findings of the Situational Analysis on the Status of Sexual and Reproductive Health of Students and Gender-Based Violence in Technical and Vocational Colleges in Malawi and the Gender and Inclusion Study, STEP is working with the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training to develop a standard Code of Conduct for Trainee as well as a Code of Conduct for Instructors and Administrators.

The Trainee Code forms the basis of the relationship between TEVET colleges and its trainees. The colleges are committed to providing a fulfilling learning environment and this commitment is underpinned by an expectation that trainees will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values and principles laid out in this Code of Conduct.  The purpose of this Code is to define the standards of behaviour, which all TEVET trainees agree to as a condition of their enrollment.

The first consultation on the codes proved to be very effective and fruitful.  Dr. Maxi Ussar took participants through the drafts in a comprehensive and participatory manner ensuring full participation of all.  Our appreciation goes out to all the students, principals, and instructors for participating and helping to shape effective codes to make colleges inclusive and effective.  Over the next few months these codes will be revised and finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development for approval and distribution to all TEVET colleges and training centres.
