New Community Technical College Opens

The Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development held the official opening of the Aida Chilembwe Community Technical College, in Chilembwe on Thursday, 13th September.

The new CTC will offer seven programmes, namely, brick-laying, carpentry and joinery, textile and fashion design, fabrication and welding, plumbing, electrical installation, and ICT.

STEP has supported the development by building new classroom/workshops for both plumbing and fabrication/welding. The UNESCO implemented part of STEP is also assisting with capacity development at the college.

In August, College administrators attended a 10-day TEVET management training programme in Mponela, and starting September 18th, the new college instructors will take part in a two-week programme on competency based training and assessment at the nearby Domasi College of Education.

The College official opening was presided over by the President of Malawi, His Excellency, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, and attended by many notables including politicians, senior representatives from the MoLYSMD and TEVETA, and others.
