As part of the 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Women in November 2017, STEP supported the training of some members of TEVET Student Councils. The Student Council members went back to their colleges and ran training sessions with other students or held GBV prevention awareness raising activities.
Following up on these activities, on May 11th, 2018 the Don Bosco Student Parliament organized a professional and effective launch to the campaign to end gender based violence. It is obviously a concern for the students at Don Bosco as seen by the reaction from the students. The students used the medium of song, theatre, poetry and dance extremely well to convey a difficult message. They invited a Sergeant from the Victim Support Unit to share the role of the police in convicting perpetrators of violence.

All 600 students from the Technical Institute, all instructors and staff, local chiefs, leaders and Members of Parliament and officials from the Ministry of Gender were in attendance. Showing their leadership skills, the Student Parliament also invited secondary school students and inspired them also to address GBV issues in the community.
Congratulations to the student leaders for organizing this successful event and for the administration for providing the financial support. It is obvious that it took a great deal of time and effort to organize.
