Lilongwe, November 30, 2018 — A closing ceremony was held at Simama hotel today to mark the end of a two-week training course on Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) for 42 new Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) instructors and 6 master trainers.

The training was provided under the European Union (EU) funded Skills and Technical Education Programme (STEP) in partnership with the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) and the Ministry of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development. Six CBT&A Master Trainers co-delivered the training. The co-trainers also completed their training to qualify as Master CBT&A Trainers through this practical exercise.

Competency based training is a modern approach that combines practical and theoretical training around specific competencies, It is a more effective way of training and results in better learning outcomes for trainees. This training in the Central region is one of a series of training workshops occurring throughout Malawi to train all newly hired TEVET instructors in CBT&A. The workshops are being supported by STEP in order to enhance the quality of TEVET in Malawi.

Mr. Arthur E. Shears, STEP Team Leader said, “A skilled workforce is essential for the growth and development of Malawi. So we are very pleased to see 42 more TEVET instructors complete their CBT&A programme today. These instructors are now equipped with the skills they need to impart their knowledge and skills to trainees at TEVET institutions throughout the Centre of Malawi.”
